Understanding the Zipcodes Used in the US

The US Postal Service uses zipcodes as part of the addresses so that it can direct the mail to the appropriate person. The ZIP part of the word is an acronym for Zone Improvement Plan. The basic format of all zip codes consists of five numbers, In 1983 a ZIP + 4 format was introduced, which consists of the basic five numbers, a hyphen and then four more numbers.

The process of using zip codes for pieces of mail in the US started in 1943 when the US Post Office started using codes to identify large cities within states. This was the brainchild or a postal worker, Robert Moon, who submitted his proposal to the Postal service in 1941. A more general system was introduced in the early 1960’s and a zip cods for the entire country came into effect in 1963. Moon’s proposal was to use three digits to identify each sectional center facility in the country and this system is still in effect. The five digits consist of the number for the sectional facility and the postal code for the city in the state. For example the zip code for Aaronsburg, Pennsylvania is 16820. The numbers 168 refer to the sectional center facility and the numbers 20 refers to the postal code for Pennsylvania.

In 1963, zip cods were only used for first class mail and it wasn’t until 1967 that packages and second and third class mail were required to use them in the addresses. In the ZIP + 4, system now in use, the additional four digits are used to identify a geographic region. The code is transferred to a bar code which the sorting machinery used in the post offices can use to make sure the mail goes to the appropriate locality. For addresses with post office boxes, the add on digits refer to the post office box number. However, unlike the regular zip codes for cities, there is no uniform code for post office boxes. If you want to send mail to a particular address you would have to look up the full 12-digit zip code.

The first digit of the zip code represents a geographical area of the country, such as a group of states. Together with this digit and the next two, the mail goes to the appropriate facility where the mail is sorted once again. The fourth and fifth digits of the zip code refer to the addresses within a specific region. Usually the main city in a region receives the first zip code and then the surrounding towns and cities receive zip codes in alphabetical order following that initial zip code according to the name of the city or town.

Most of the lowest zip code numbers are in the New England states, since they all start with 0. Other postal codes beginning with 0 are the US Internal Revenue Service, Adjuntas, Puerto Rico and cities starting with A in this region. New York State has the initial digit of 1, so the zip codes of all addresses in New York start with 1.

Using an Ezine to Market your Company

Anyone who uses the Internet regularly has heard of or seen an ezine. However, what many people don’t know is that ezines are one of largest and most inexpensive resources for marketing a business online. Ezines provide companies a simple way to create a name for themselves, while simultaneously driving new traffic to their website. There are many reasons why companies use ezines as a promotional tool. Among them are branding, exposure, traffic, increasing credibility and additional income. There is almost no company in existence that would turn down free advertising and that is why ezine advertising has become so popular. Not only can companies use the articles they write for an ezine to promote their business, but often they can make residual income off selling related e-books or articles to other sites.

When you write an article for an ezine not only does it create exposure for your company, but it brands you as an expert, which helps to increase your credibility among prospective customers. When you publish articles on an ezine for the purpose of advertising you are significantly increasing your companies exposure. When people use a search engine or an ezine site and they locate your article, they are then aware of both your company and your expert knowledge on your company related subjects.

Ezines generally allow authors to place links within their articles or on the article pages. After a prospective customer has read an informative ezine article and they are thinking about using a related product or service they may follow that link to your site, thus increasing your sites traffic. It is important that the articles you place on an ezine and link to your website are well written. These articles should encompass the use of keywords that are related to your business. The article should not be an advertisement in the general sense of the word. In fact, in most cases it should not even mention your specific company name. It is more important that a reader feel they are getting genuinely useful and credible information without feeling like they are reading a glorified advertisement for your business.

You can link and brand, but you should not be selling yourself in an overly obvious way. If the article is good it will peak the curiosity of the user and they will investigate further by clicking on the embedded links. When properly implemented an ezine advertising campaign can increase your reach, your credibility and help you establish relationships with publishers that can be useful and long-term. An effective ezine article will give your prospective customers something, without asking for anything in return. It is a way to establish trust with prospective customers and develop long-term relationships with them.

Although advertising through an ezine does not pose any obvious financial risk, poorly written articles may represent your company in a negative light. If you are not a skilled writer it is best to hire a freelance writer to write your ezine articles for you so they are polished and effective.

Autoresponders In House Vs Outsourced

Autoresponders specially sequential autoresponders are great tool to be used online. We can automate many tasks by using autoresponders, like thank you email sent to customer just after the purchase, another email sent containing product download information, and also using autoresponders we can upsell and Cross sell the buyers. Everything is done automatically, a complete hands free process, working 24 hours a day 365 days a year for your business as per your marketing strategy.

As you can see autoresponders are GREAT! but why we are discussing them here? What is very important in this regard, which I have learnt from my own experiences in internet business.

Well using many proven selling strategies along with autoresponders we can easily DOUBLE the profits if used correctly. But once i did a big mistake, and lost huge MONEY i.e. i had to waste a list of real buyers of my products just because i made one fatal mistake at the beginning of list building. That is I used in house autoresponder script installed on my OWN server to send autoresponder messages.

Result? I lost money every day! i.e. my messages were not actually being delivered to the prospects as my mail server and IP was blocked and tagged as SPAM by many ISPs and dedicated services. And I was not even aware of this fact until i have lost many profits. So problem was the delivery of messages to the list. If my messages were not reaching the prospects how i could make money.

Why this problem occurred and what is right solution for this kind of problem. Number one cause of this problem was that my site was hosted on a shared hosting server that is many other webmasters were hosting their sites on that server and sending emails to many many people using the same IP.

When just a one webmaster sends SPAM emails to internet users, the recipients of those messages simply has to click SPAM button in their inboxs. And dedicated services who are fighting against SPAM will just block and list that IP as Spammer! and next message sent from that IP will never reach the actual recipients!

So what is the solution to this problem? I am glad you asked this! Following is best solution known in Internet Business industry for list building, and autoresponders to deliver your business messages to your prospects in surefire way!

1. Use dedicated server with in house script just for sending emails for your website. Do not share this server or IP with any other website or webmaster. Never send SPAM to anyone. Just send the legitimate messages to actual prospects who have actually opt-in to your list and you have confirmed the leads by double opt-in to avoid any SPAM complaints.

But this can be very costly and time consuming task, to run your own dedicated server and to ensure that your IPs are not blacklisted by any major ISP. But if you are running a big organization and have to send bulk mail to a big list of subscribers and can afford the cost for this operation, go for it! Otherwise if you are a small business operation i suggest you go for 2nd solution which is listed below.

2. Second best solution, which is easy to start & manage and very cost effective with many other benefits, is to outsource the operation to any trusted dedicated service. There are many dedicated services online, proven to work, and very cost effective and easy to operate to manage your list and autoresponder sequence. As they are dedicated to ensure that your messages are actually delivered to intended prospectus, they have built relations with major ISPs to safeguard their IPs being blocked due to any reason.

Using Social Networking Sites To Generate Leads

The first step to generating leads from social networking is by making a presence, a good solid and positive presence. Look at some of the fantastic tools that are available to help you do this. Use embedding to integrate your opt in list with social networking.
It is no big deal, as many people embed videos and music into their profiles. If you are a great content provider then you will get sizzling leads from social networking sites.

Never include anything less than great information, information that can improve the lives of your readers. Remember that today is an information hungry society, so feed them with what they want. If you prove your credibility as a quality content provider, people will start subscribing to your list and responding to your offers. The trick with providing free content is to give useful information.

Give your prospects and future prospects some information but not so much that there is nothing left for the imagination. You want them to see enough that they can not wait to read your newsletter. Give them some bait and make sure that they want more which they can get from your paid products or services.

Social Marketing has become a key to helping people connect with others of like interest. Social Networking is how all of the Network Marketers, Affiliate Marketers and Home Business People are going to build their current businesses and create an additional income stream. Social networking is also referred to as Web 2.0. Social Marketing is the hottest business online right now.

Look for social networking websites that are in your market segment. The most popular right now is Linkedln, Facebook, and MySpace but you are not limited by any means as there are numerous sites that offer the same services. Some sites even have a way for you to make money. The more people on your down line who enroll, and use the simple Marketing System to build their business below you, the more money you can make in no time at all.

Some of the social networking sites are focused in more of a business environment while others are more of chit chat type program. You want to get in with those that fit into your plan, people who share a common interest with you, people who can make you some cash!
If you are a business looking to utilize social networking for profit, there are a few things to keep in mind. Consider the demography, social networking sites such as MySpace and Facebook target the young generation and youth. Do you have a niche product/service that caters to this group? If so, through niche marketing, advertising on these sites could bring in a lucrative income.

If this is not your target market then look over the various social media sites and find one that does fit your niche. Many wonder why social networking is so popular and it is because customers are more prone to purchase products from a company that goes the extra mile in developing a relationship versus a company that does not.
