For all domain traders, the most important goal is to monetize their expired domains to create sizeable online income. In fact, the big buck lies in how you flip and empower your expired domains. Domain traders also understand and accept the reality that a large inventory of expired domains is a wasteful expenditure and wastage of time. The real money lies in how you enable your domains as viable commercial units and not in maintaining them by spending lot of invaluable cash. You will need to look for ways and methods that can limit wasteful expenditure, while you are holding on to the domains. Here are some of the simple and effective techniques that will help you monetize your domains:

Using technique of creating type-in type of traffic: The most precious thing with an expired domain is the existence of type-in type of traffic. In essence, an expired domain based on a great keyword will receive plenty of type-in type of traffic. An intelligent domain trader will ensure that he or she will place the expired domain on a beneficial PPC program just to utilize or exploit the accumulated type-in type of traffic. There are domain traders who make more than $500 with a single top and premium expired domain! This is a better way of flipping your domain, instead of just holding on to a domain. Once you add enough value to a good type-in type of domain, you can consider selling it at a premium price. A type-in type of expired domain can help you recover all overhead expenses incurred in maintaining and managing expired domains.

Using advantages of parked domains: A number of service providers allow you to utilize the services of domain parking by adding useful content and promotional banners over a simple web page. When you display a well designed landing page, you can milk all the positive benefits of domain parking to their maximum possible extent. However, you will need to try out a number of different combinations of promotions and advertisements to derive the best possible returns. Different domain traders use different types of methods and promotions to float their parking pages. Most of the parking agencies provide you simple default type of landing page that may not be really efficient to derive the best results.

This simple action will allow you to monetize your web portal with additional income as well. What you need to do is to simply redirect the traffic from your parked pages to the web portal.

Using Web 2.0 community: One of the newest trends in expired domain industry is to use the positive benefits of Web 2.0 community to advertise your domains. When you convert your expired domains with traffic into useful Web 2.0 community, you can supplement the value of your expired domains.

There are several other ways and means that can help you monetize your list of expired domain names. You may need to assess and evaluate each one of them before using them to monetize your domains.

.mobi (commonly known as dotMobi) was approved by ICANN as a top-level domain in July 2005. “.mobi domain is managed by mTLD global registry, having the sole purpose of providing internet to mobile devices through Mobile Web. This domain is sponsored by industry giants as follows: Google, Microsoft, Nokia, Samsung, Ericsson, Vodafone, T-Mobile, Telefonica Moviles, Telecom Italia Mobile, Orascom Telecom, GSM Association, Hutchison Whampoa, Syniverse Technologies, and, Visa

Executive of each company has a seat in mTLD’s Board of Directors.

.mobi domain names were opened for public registration in the latter half of 2006. Before the start of next year, domain sales already crossed the 100k dollars mark which indicated the confidence of developers in this new extension.

Dotmobi domain names also received criticism because of violating the principles of device independence with developers arguing to devise different ways of promoting Mobile Internet through existing domains.

Some developers also pointed out that typing the characters “mobi” on handheld devices required 9-10 keystrokes while the “com” requiring 7 and “wap” requiring only 3 keystrokes. Hence terming this new inventions as an “unfortunate choice”. This was handled by having an inbuilt predictive text entry for the “mobi” domains.

Dotmobi had engaged with the W3CMWI (Mobile Web Initiative) to formulate the efficient practices and protocols for mobile content. These outlined good number of ways to make the Mobile Content fun at the user end and implementing the same.

mTLD had released a testing website (ready.mobi) to check the compatibility of a handheld device with a .mobi domain name or as they say -to analyze mobile readiness of a particular website. This website generated a detailed report of the shortcomings of compatibility of a website with a .mobi ready score of 1 to 5.

There are many free authoring tools which can be used to create mobi compatible site. One of such website builder tool is Site.mobi (by mobiSiteGalore) which offers may tools to develop a .mobi-ready website. mTLD also offers ebooks and free training material about .mobi at the mobiForge website. It also provides a free mobile emulator tool to test and view mobile webpages on a computer.

Now, talking about the advantages of .mobi domains, since all the .mobi sites are optimized for hand-held devices or mobile phones, they provide a guarantee of usage on the move. . This includes hard factors such as device input/output options, device form/size, smaller screens, existence of embedded sensors (light/darkness, location, acceleration, touch, ambient noise), and soft factors such as : context awareness within a short span of attention and expectation of immediate results. In fact, other domains can also apply these optimizations but it is a necessary condition for websites specifically designed for mobile devices.

The Dotmobi invention also suffers from a few disadvantages. First one being, dividing the world wide web in two parts, one being for the general users and other for the mobile users. This has a major drawback of generating redundant data on the world wide web. Also the companies or individuals have to register and maintain two domain names instead of one which further adds to their costs.

With so many different top level domain names it is difficult to fully appreciate the purpose each domain was created for. This article discusses the history of the .org domain name and its use in general online business today

There are various categories of domain names used in internet by various websites. The domain names must be unique to identify a website in the internet. To make this simple, the domain names carry certain characteristics. Generally, the domain names have two parts and the second part is the extension with which users will be able to identify the purpose of the website.

.org is a widely used domain name in internet. This generic top level domain name is used by the DNS system of the internet. This domain name was registered in January 1985. This was meant for the organizations, which could not get a domain name registration with other top level domain names.

.org domain name is somewhat liberal in use and hence anyone could get a domain name with this. Though there are alternatives of domain names for use by individuals, .org is the most commonly used domain name by individuals for their websites. Public Interest Registry takes care of the .org domain name after January 1, 2003.

Organizations working in all parts of the world could use .org domain names for their websites. Some of those organizations follow a second level domain naming system which will indicate their country code. This will help to identify the country of operation of the website, especially when the operation is spread across several countries around the globe.

Apart from its use in the charitable field, .org domain name is also used by the open source movements. This is contradictory to that used by the .com domain names by some other companies. In some countries like the United States of America, the political parties also use domain names with .org extension.

In some situations, when people find that the domain name they have chosen is being used by some other websites, there is a practice of choosing .org as their domain name. In such cases, the purpose of the website has least relevance in connection with the domain name they have chosen. This habit has become more popular nowadays.

Through the help of the domain name registration services available online, you will be able to get a domain name for your website with .org extension. Generally the presence of several of these kinds of domain name registries has caused the price of domain name registration to go down.

You will get cheaper .org domain names without many constraints. In fact, though .org domains were meant for non-profitable organizations, this is widely being used by other organizations as well. With some simple to understand procedures, you will be able to register to one of these services at a reduced price. The database of the registration services could be searched to check for the availability of your domain name with them.

You will even get country specific domain names which will reveal your presence and operation in specific locations across the world. The registration processes could be completed online without consuming much time. If you try to get a .org domain name for your website during special periods and discount seasons, you will be able to get a domain name at a very much reduced price.

Are you feeling frustrated because someone else had registered your dream domain name? These days, almost every word or phrase that has some meaning has been taken up. Fortunately, .Tel is going to be available for registration soon.

From 3rd February onwards, you will be able to register for your favorite .Tel domain name. You can register for your-company.Tel, your-name.Tel, keyword-phrase.Tel, and so on.

Those who are aware of this piece of wonderful news may just be lurking to snap up as many .Tel domain names as possible so that they can squat on the domains and resale them later at a much higher price. Sensing the same would happen with the release of .Tel domains, the prices are adjusted accordingly. From 3rd February to 23rd March, anyone can register for a .Tel domain name, but at a price of 325 GBP for a 3 year subscription. The premium pricing is charged because of all costs charged by the registries to discourage domain squatting.

So how is a .Tel domain name different from a traditional domain name?

Individuals and businesses who want to get a web presence have to start off with a domain name that has not already been registered. They can register for domain names at a domain name registrar such as GoDaddy or NameCheap.

Once a domain name has been chosen and registered, the DNS (Domain Name Servers) need to be changed to point to a web hosting server. That means the website owner has to have a hosting service in order to start using the domain name.

Content such as static HTML pages will then be uploaded into the servers, and the website is live. The entire process is simple enough to understand, but rather cumbersome. There is a need to buy hosting, generate content, and maintain the website.

However, for .Tel domain names, you don’t have to worry about DNS, hosting, etc. All you have to do, is to sign up for the domain name. After March 23rd, the price will drop to 14.95 GBP for a one year registration. You may wish to register after March 23rd if you want to avoid paying the initial premium pricing. To save money, you can even choose to order in bulk. When purchasing in volume, price for a .Tel domain name can be as low as 7.45 GBP (100+ domain names and above).

Once the .Tel domain name has been registered, you will given an account where you can login and input your details such as personal information or company information. There is no need for hosting. The information you entered will be live on your website immediately. That also means you can edit your .Tel website any time you want to with any device as long as you are connected to the Internet.

A control is possible only through the control panel of the proprietary website of Telnic. This website has been created by Telnic for its Registrars for providing to the users of the websites.

Telnic has created several open source applications for its users to use the .tel domain name. Through this, users could access the domain name for various purposes. This will avoid the need for using a browser or any other device for accessing the domain name. These applications are directly available to the users freely on the developer website.

The .tel domain name users do not require paying any charge towards the ongoing hosting fees. They will not have to start and maintain a website to become they noted on the World Wide Web, with their domain name.

The information stored in .tel domain name will be accurate and trust worthy for users. Individual users of .tel as a domain name will be allowed to determine the kind of data, they store there.
This article will help you invest wisely in the domain name business and help you consider other TLDs as well as the obvious and main TLD, com.

If you are thinking of investing in domain names it’s important that you understand your market. Top Level Domains or TLDs are growing by the day, some would say that this is a great way for certain bodies to make even more cash and some would say that it opens up the domain name market to people who missed the boat on coms.

Which ever way you look at it the release of new TLDs is going to happen on a regular basis over the coming years and one such TLD that has just released is .me.

One of the newly released TLDs, that is causing a lot of interest is the .me. There are of course several reasons as to why this particular TLD is causing so much interest and we can go through them one by one.

Firstly for all English speaking nations the word “me” is commonly used and understood, this gives the TLD an advantage over certain other TLD domain releases in the sense that it can become part of your domain name or brand, for instance: call me, date me…etc. This makes it easier to remember and in some cased to brand. Secondly, due to the fact that the domain extension has a very broad appeal it naturally lends itself to individual or personal web pages and blogs.

You can see this in action already in the tv extension that is widely being used and accepted by media companies around the world as a good domain name extension for television companies and online tv channels. The explosion in social networking sites and the move to personal connection web sites lends itself perfectly to the .me tld and I’m sure you will see one or two big players in the area within the next couple of years.

Also if you take into account how ISPs and web hosting providers are simplifying the web development process and supplying packages that can have you up and running in no time at all, they are removing the barriers to entry in the market everyday. Another interesting point about the .me extension is that it is totally open and anyone can register a domain name.

Another success story in the domain names area is the European extension eu. It was first released a couple of years ago and has since steadily crawled up the charts of the most popular extensions. At the last count it had reached 3 million registered domain names and is growing at a steady pace.

The two other areas that should be mentioned and I would suggest to study them well is India and China. Although to market for cn has been very closely control by the Chinese government up to now we are finally seeing a little relaxing in the controls. This can be seen in the rapid growth of registrations.

This is also thrue of India and their in CC. They are finally waking up to the value of their national CC. There are 2 billion people in these two markets, alone they dwarf the entire domain and is only a matter of time before most of the people in these countries are online.

Taking all of the above into consideration if you are thinking of starting your own web site, blog or even your own business, don’t overlook the possibilities of the .me extension.

With so many different top level domain names it is difficult to fully appreciate the purpose each domain was created for. This article discusses the history of the .eu domain name and its use in general online business today

Eu domain names were launched in December 2005 as a country code top level domain for European union which was made available to the citizens and organizations of the EU member states. This Top Level Domain is taken care by EURid, an organization comprising of national registry operators from many European Union states. Full-fledged registration process started in April 2006.

The early phase of operation was termed as the sunrise period. This was further broken into 2 phases. The first phase began in December 2005, which was to check and allot domain names to registrants with existing rights based on geographic names and trademarks. The second phase was carried out from February 2006 which covered personal names, trade and company registrations.

In April 2006, registrations became possible for people without trademarks. Most people who were requesting domain names had already asked their registrars to have their requested domains pre-registered by putting them in a queue, not to miss a chance to register a domain. More than 700k domain names were registered even before first few hours of operation. Large registrars like Dotster and Go Daddy began to suffer from unresponsiveness and long queues of operation, allowing people to register through a person who has already bought a domain. Till August 2006, approximately 2 Million domain names had been registered. Now, .eu is the forth largest registered domain in Europe and holds the ninth position internationally. This process of grabbing domains by registrars was commonly known as the land rush process.

Many companies and individuals criticized this land rush process. They said that such a process created hundreds of phantom registrars, creating an unhealthy way of doing business. These “phantom” registrars had many opportunities and ways of registering a domain whereas genuine registrars had only one opportunity to register the same domain.

These domain names had also been brought to use by many European Union institutions by registering the second-level domain .europa.eu. Institutions and agencies made a switch from previous .eu.int to .europa.eu domain names in May 2006. However, the European Central Bank still uses the domain ECB.eu, unaffected by the shift.

.eu has its main users as websites with European or cross-border audiences and traffic, as known in the technical terms. .eu is more commonly used to emphasize that the website has a European Identity, as opposed to a website which has a strictly national country top-level domain or a global .com nature.

In most countries of European Union, national top-level domains have a major share in the market. The remaining share is spread over .com/.net/.org/.info/.biz in sequential order. Due to this, this young extension has had to work a lot to gain a significant share of these national markets.

A brief summary on Irish domain names, the Irish registry and the reseller community.

The country code top level domain (ccTLD) for Ireland is .ie. This ccTLD is managed by a not for profit organization in Dublin, Ireland know as the Irish Domain Registry or IEDR. The IEDR is not a regulatory body and provides the service to the public and internet community. The registry is responsible for the provision of IE names and the rules relating to their registration. The IEDR implements a dispute resolution policy for domains through the WIPO and unlike other registries operates Monday to Friday during business hours.

Requirements to register

The IE domain itself is a restricted domain in that only applicants who meet certain criteria may register this name. The two main requirements are: Being based in Ireland or having a strong link to Ireland (both northern and southern Ireland). Where the applicant is not based in Ireland information showing this connection must be provided. Secondly the entity registering the domain must have a connection to the name and where this connection is not obvious, must provide evidence of this connection.

Resellers and registration process

Domains are registered through approved domain resellers and are passed to the domain registry directly for approval. The approval process is carried out by a team of people known as IEDR Hostmasters. It is their responsibility to ensure the registration requirements are adhered to. Communication is passed to the approved reseller in the case where more information is required. This thorough process of vetting has led to both positive and negative effects on the domain names reputation.

Positive and negative aspects to the domain

On the positive side the domain was recently voted the second safest domain in the world after the Finnish ccTLD. Generally speaking IE domains are held in high regard by Irish based internet surfers. It is seen as a mark of quality or authenticity when doing business online and as a result .ie based websites are trusted over their .com cousins. Very rarely are large spam attacks initiated through an IE domain and the rate of hacks and other internet attacks from IE hostnames is quite low.

The price of .ie domain names are higher than the average TLD or ccTLD, but this price has been significantly reduced over the past 2 years, from an average of around 65 to as low as 19 today. This is due to the traditionally large human input required to approve and manage a domain portfolio. Recently the domain registry themselves have implemented an API mechanism to fast track registration, billing and modifications of domain names. This was carried out by liaising with the reseller community to assess their needs on a day to day basis. Because of the successful implementation of this API amongst the community the price of registering IE domains has fallen with some suppliers leading the way in the price reduction.

Future of the domain

The future of the .ie is bright. New technical advancements in the API as well as the continued reduction in the Irish domain price mean the number of registrations is increasing constantly. Increased promotion of the domain brand by the domain registry and reseller community alike has also led to increased registrations.

If you are looking forward to capitalize and use the incoming earning opportunities of the internet, you can definitely choose this industry. Though this emerging industry poses stiff competition, you can still be a major player provided you know how to use the opportunity to the maximum.

Expired domains offer you a great opportunity and a wonderful chance to earn handsome online income. It has been a decade and a half, since the first of the most enterprising entrepreneurs made a foray into the emerging market. Though this promising industry faced its first visible downfall during the early parts of the new century, a sign of stability and evenness is starting to appear in the later half of the first decade of the new millennium. If you are looking forward to capitalize and use the incoming earning opportunities of the internet, you can definitely choose this industry. Though this emerging industry poses stiff competition, you can still be a major player provided you know how to use the opportunity to the maximum.

Expired domain industry is a curious and special type of industry. It is almost off beat and unusual in its nature, as most of the people do not know what it is and how one can make so much money from a basketful of junk domain names! It is also an industry that displays unconventional business and marketing principles. Though similar to stock market business ventures, domain industry has a number of variables and imponderables that always pose great challenges to anyone, who is carrying out business operations.

In simple terms, a trader is the one, who buys and sells expired domains and later makes decent profits from this buying and selling activity. The essential aspect of this industry is to buy them at very low prices and sell them later at high market prices. Nevertheless, it is not that easy to conduct this business operation, as there a number of other factors that influence the quality and price of the domain that you wish to sell.

Creating domain gains always poses a great challenge to you, because of its occasional uncertain and unstable nature. As they are, domain names may never be useful and profitable, unless they form those top of the line, premium and great sounding domain names. Thus, the overall strategy of this unusual and promising business is to seek, detect and buy great domain names at comparatively low prices and sell them later at higher prices. Smart entrepreneurs also make it a point to nurture and raise good expired domain names (domain flipping, as they call this process) into traffic enriched web portals and later offer them as a great sales package to interested parties.

Finally, what will be the perceived scope and promises for this great business? One sweet aspect of this business is its business format and design that is rather simple and straightforward. On the other hand, expired domain trading business could offer you potentially money-spinning opportunities, especially when you grab great domains. Now that the industry is gradually stabilizing, one can really hope for better moneymaking opportunities in the near future.

With so many different top level domain names it is difficult to fully appreciate the purpose each domain was created for. This article discusses the history of the info domain name and its use in general online business today.

The main use and intention of .info domain names is not restricted. Yet, there is a common procedure noticed everywhere in internet, where .info domain names are being used by websites providing information from various areas to users.

The use of this domain name for informative websites was done as a part of an announcement made in late 2000, when a public release regarding the top domain names was made. In this announcement, .info came as the leading domain name with around 5.2 million users in its registry as of April 2008. Apart from this, there was another 1.6 million websites with .info domain name, which are active and dedicated for informative purposes in internet.

Since .info domain name is a generic and unrestricted domain name, this could be used by any user, for any purpose. In fact, this is the only top level domain name which was created and used for general purposes without much restrictions and limitations. .info stands for information and hence the name of the websites, using .info domain name clearly reveals that, they are used for such purposes.
Ever after its release and creation, .info domain name was under the maintenance and control of Affilias. This was considered to be the first domain name that supported the IETF standards-based domain name.

The launch of .info domain name was a sunrise period for the trademark owners. This was a rush when this was opened to all. In fact, .info was the first domain name of this kind to be opened in this manner. In the initial stages, a large number of false registrations were made under this domain name. Later this could be identified and this weeded several of those registrations.

Some of the online domain registration services provide free .info registrations. Users will be asked to follow the simple and easy to understand domain registration processes. They could check for the availability of the domain names they require and later get their websites popularized under this name.

If the purpose of the website or the information being conveyed could be used as the first part of the domain name, an extension with .info will clearly reveal the main idea of the website. This will directly help in marketing and popularization of the website. .info is more generic in use, yet users generally take it for granted that all domain names with extension .info carry informative content. This has in a way helped when such websites try for marketing their site.
